Ambassador Abeille Gélinas!
A young Montréal DJ full of energy, Abeille Gélinas has been setting turntables on fire for eight years with electro, dance, hip-hop and soul rhythms, plus a touch of the
1980s and 1990s. Here is a short portrait of the Printemps numérique
ambassador. Why did she accept the role? She says she is a great lover of art and that art in general moves her deeply. Seeing digital art in full bloom is impressive, and being part of the festival excited her, allowed her to expand her
knowledge and helped digital artists shine while democratizing
culture. Asked how she describes her musical style and inspiration, she says inspiration comes from the crowd in front of her when she performs. She is influenced by people’s energy and
the atmosphere in the room, so the set can
be very hip-hop or very electro. When she hears digital creativity in Montréal, the first thing that comes to mind is accessibility. Digital creativity is for everyone: she can attend with friends, her child or even her mother. It can also be experienced every day, in
streets, venues and daily life through projections and mosaics. For her
performance at the Solstice closing show, she wants to mix styles and show her versatility without losing herself in her art. Her goal will still be to entertain, make people dance and give them a thrill, and she guarantees it will
not be boring. Her next projects will move
into summer events in Montréal and beyond the metropolis, with several festival sets, some time for herself and continued collaborations such as The Daily Mommy. Epicurean and sparkling, Abeille is a truemulti-talented artist whose good humour is contagious. You will be able to see her perform a set during the Printemps numérique closing show, SOLSTICE17, at the Société des arts technologiques on June 21.
