on what we want to keep. The INDEPENDENT VIDEO GAME START-UP AWARD went toChildren of the Zodiarcs by Cardboard Utopia, a tactical RPG with strong storytelling that combines collectible-card elements and customizable dice to create a strategic gameplay experience. The project caught the jury’s attention because it brings together both the gaming community and industry business partners. Through its innovation, it refreshes a popular game style that has been little represented in recent years and shows strong growth potential based on a solid team. The winner received a $5,000 grant from Loto-Québec and cloud-hosting services from OVH valued at $10,000.

The 2017 NUMIX Awards evening took place at the Monument-National before an audience of key players in Québec’s digital-media industry. The gala was hosted by comedians Silvi Tourigny and Daniel Grenier, both of whom had appeared in previous NUMIX rankings. Before touring together that summer, the duo hosted the gala with talent and energy as 24 awards were presented. Organized by the Regroupement des producteursmultimédia, with more than 160 submissions, the NUMIX Awards once again showed the vitality and creativity of local digital-media producers. In all, 24 awards were presented among 65 finalists. Winners were selected by a 33-member jury from the new-media industry chaired by Benoît Giguère, senior director, design, interactivity and user experience for digital projects at La Presse. The complete list of 2017 NUMIX winners is available on the official competition website. Official release.
